Large Pine Tree Dismantled

Unfortunately, this Pine Tree located in Keston Park, Bromley, had to be removed by JJ&B Treecare Ltd, due to the tree being deemed unsafe.  The tree was also in a Conservation Area and held a Tree Preservation Order.

Pine Tree

We carried out a full Arboricultural Survey Report on this tree, including a Picus Test.

Picus Test Being Carried Out                        Picus Test Results

From these results, we discovered that the tree was a health and safety hazard and would need to be removed.   We applied to the local council on behalf of our client with our findings and conclusions, who then granted us permission for the tree to be removed.

The job itself took a couple of days to remove, as it was extremely large and we needed to ensure the safety of our staff and the clients property.  You can see from the images that it was located very close to their house.

Ash Tree set for Extinction in Europe

The ash tree is likely to be wiped out in Europe, according to a review of the evidence.

The trees are being killed off by the fungal disease ash-dieback along with an                                                                                                                                                    invasive beetle called the emerald ash borer.

According to the research, published in the Journal of Ecology, the British countryside will never look the same again.

The paper says that the ash will most likely be “eliminated” in Europe.

This could mirror the way Dutch elm disease largely wiped out the elm in the 1980s.

Ash trees are a key part of the treescape of Britain. You don’t have to go to the countryside to see them.                                                                                                             In and around towns and cities there are 2.2 million. In woodland, only the oak is more common.

For more information on this problem, head to the BBC News website.

Fossil of the oldest Pine Tree discovered!

Scientists have discovered the fossil of the oldest Pine Tree yet known, dating back to 140 million years!

For a great read, check out the link to the website!

Cherry Plum Tree Flowers

Unlike most early bloomers in Spring, the cherry plum flowers are found on trees rather than low-lying plants.

The tree itself can grow up to 15m tall, but the flowers only reach 2cm across. They have five stark white petals and long deep yellow stamen, which appear early-mid February.

These flowers are easily confused with blackthorn flowers, which are more of a cream colour and often bloom later than the cherry plum.

To get the most out of your Cherry Plum Tree, contact us at JJ&B Treecare Ltd, and we will be able to give you a free health check for your Cherry Plum Tree!

Woodland Trust to Help Dying Ash Trees

In recent news, the Woodland Trust is to help dying Ash Trees!

The charity has signed a £4.5 million contract to develop a more transparent supply chain for sourcing UK trees.  Woodland Trust states that the deal will ensure that the trees it plants over the next few years are from fully traceable seed stock sourced from throughout the UK and Ireland.

This will help to reduce the risk of tree diseases and premature dying of trees, as seen with the Ash Tree dieback which begun in 2012.

If you’re concerned with the welfare regarding any of your trees or shrubs, please get in touch with JJ&B Treecare.

We offer a Free Health Check for your trees!

We are a conservation minded company, and would never remove or fell a tree unless there is proper just cause.
